What is the HCG Diet Plan?

HCG, or Human Chorionic Gonadotropin, forms the basis for the HCG Diet, and it is a hormone produced in a womans body during pregnancy. The HCG Diet was developed by Dr. ATW Simeon in Rome, Italy in the 1950s. Dr. Simeon discovered the mechanism behind the HCG hormone upon traveling to India. While on his journey, he noticed that malnourished Indian mothers were giving birth to healthy babies. Understanding the phases of the HCG diet meal plan and preparing meals that fit into the high protein diet.

The HCG diet involves caloric restrictions and regular injections of the HCG hormone. According to proponents of the diet, the HCG hormone, which occurs naturally in pregnant women, helps the body lose weight quickly and efficiently. When the hormone enters your body, it can suppress hunger, reduce muscle loss, and fix other hormone imbalances. A number of different HCG diet protocols exist, but most follow the same basic diet plan and phases.

During the main phase of the diet, you will follow the HCG 500 calorie diet meal plan. The dramatic drop in calories ensures that you lose weight quickly. The HCG diet meal plan, which was outlined in the book Pounds & Inches by Dr. A.T.W. Simeons, includes just two meals per day. In addition, you can have one Melba toast or a single breadstick. To close out the meal, you can choose from an apple, a half of a grapefruit, a handful of strawberries, or an orange. If you like, you can eat the breadstick or the fruit as a snack between meals. The meal options stay the same until you are finished with the main phase of the diet.

In addition to the regular lunch and dinner foods, the HCG meal plan allows you to use the juice of a single lemon each day. While you are cooking, you can use almost any type of spice, garlic, and vinegar, but you may not use butter, oil, or any type of dressing. The diet permits you to drink water, coffee, and tea in any quantity throughout the day. As a guide, you should aim for approximately two liters of fluid each day.

Given the limited number of allotted calories on the HCG diet meal plan, excellent recipes are crucial to success. For lunch, you might make an apple chicken salad with cooked chicken, a diced apple, and diced celery, mixed with lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, cardamom, salt, and stevia to taste. At dinner, you could have roasted white fish paired with pickles made from a cucumber, garlic, vinegar, lemon juice, and salt. If you are struggling to find recipes that add flavor to your meat and vegetables, try making HCG-friendly sauces and marinades. Phase Zero: Pre-diet CleanseSome variations of the HCG diet preface the four phases of the HCG diet with a cleanse or detox. Although it is not necessary or required, a cleanse diet can help prepare your body and mind for the HCG diet phases. Any type of cleanse will work. If you want an extreme detoxification, you can choose a candida cleanse or a colon cleanse. For a less extreme option, you can spend a week eliminating all processed foods from your diet.

Phase OneDuring the first phase of the HCG diet, you increase your caloric and fat intakes for two days, focusing on high-fat foods. At the same time, you will take HCG injections. The goal of the first phase is to interfere with the way the body stores fat. The HCG will prevent the fat from accumulating in your body, which begins the process of lipid mobilization.

Phase TwoOn the third day of the HCG diet, youll begin the second phase. At this point, you will drop your diet down to the 500-calorie regimen, eating only the foods outlined in the Simeons protocol. You will also continue with the HCG injection. The second phase can be difficult, particularly at the beginning. The length of this phase depends on how much weight you have to lose. At a minimum, you should stick with the plan through twenty-three doses of HCG; this lower limit is for people who want to lose fifteen or fewer pounds. At a maximum, you can stay in the second phase until youve reached forty doses of HCG. You should plan the specific dosage with your doctor. After youre finished with the HCG, you must remain on the 500-calorie diet for three days.

Phase ThreeDuring the third phase of the HCG diet, which lasts three to four weeks, you will maintain your new weight. Some variations of the HCG diet advise you to avoid starches and sugars during the third phase; others require that you avoid milk and excessive fat. After a minimum of twenty-three days, you can begin a new round of HCG. Otherwise, you will move on to the last phase.

Phase FourThe final phase of the HCG diet involves maintaining your weight. Depending on your size and physiology, you will need to eat enough calories to prevent further weight loss or gain. Your caloric intake will usually fall somewhere between 1,500 and 2,500 calories per day; your doctor can help you determine the ideal intake level. Although you will not need to follow the HCG diet meal plan, it is safest to eat clean, unprocessed foods while you maintain your weight.

On a recent episode of Celebrity physician Dr. Mehmet Oz's talk show, Dr. Oz said that he believes the HCG diet merits further investigation. HUNGERThe only time you should be excessively hungry where you find that you cannot stick to diet is:


A PLATEAUA plateau lasts 4-6 days and frequently occurs during the second half of a full (40 day) course, particularly in patients that have been doing well and whose overall average of nearly a pound per effective injection (injection 3 and on) has been maintained. Those who are losing more than the average, all have a plateau sooner or later. A plateau always corrects itself, but many patients who have become accustomed to a regular daily loss get unnecessarily worried. A plateau does not mean that you are no longer responding normally to treatment.

For such cases we consider it permissible to break up the plateau. This can be done with an apple day. An apple day begins at 11am and continues until just before 9pm. The patients are instructed to eat six large apples whenever they feel the desire, generally one every three to four hours. During an apple-day no other food or liquids except plain water are allowed and of water they may only drink just enough to quench an uncomfortable thirst if eating an apple still leaves them thirsty. The apple-day produces a gratifying loss of weight on the following day, chiefly due to the elimination of water and loosening of impacted stool. This water is not regained when the patients resume their normal 500-calorie diet at lunch, and on the following days they continue to lose weight satisfactorily.

If you stop losing weight dont assume you are having a plateau call office to discuss with staff.

CONSTIPATIONIf you are not losing a pound a day, the most common cause is constipation. Keep hydrated to avoid constipation. An excess of water keeps the feces soft, and that is very important in the obese, who commonly suffer from constipation and spastic colon.

While under treatment we rarely permit the use of any kind of laxative except bulk forming fiber which is not a typical laxative as it is not chemically altering your retention of water. It is normal to have a reduction in the amount of bowel movements as compared to before, but you SHOULD be having at least one bowel movement daily. If not, this could account for a lack of weight loss. Sugar free Metamucil 20 minutes before lunch and dinner or two back-to-back colonics can be helpful.

If you have a long history of constipation (not having at least one bowel movement per day) we suggest that you eliminate ALL MILK products (yogurt, ice cream, and especially cheese). To rebuild an atrophied colon it may take a year of a dairy free diet and a great increase in fiber. To hasten results try doing a course of colonics (ten sessions $600).

COSMETICSWhen no dietary error is found, we look at cosmetics. Most find it hard to believe that fats, oils, creams and ointments applied to the skin are absorbed and can interfere with the weight reduction by HCG, just as if it had been eaten. This incredible sensitivity to even such very minor increases in nutritional intake is a peculiar feature of the HCG method. For instance, its been found that persons who habitually handle organic fats, such as workers in beauty parlors, masseurs, butchers, etc. never show what is considered a satisfactory loss of weight unless they can avoid fat coming into contact with their skin. We encourage patients to continue using cosmetics as they normally would but to consider elimination if they stop losing a pound a day.

The Science behind the HCG Diet

HCG or Human Chorionic Gonadotropin is a hormone produced by both men and women. Women who are pregnant on the other hand, produce a higher quantity of HCG in their placenta. HCG is consists of 244 amino acids. It is a catalyst hormone that stimulates the production of other hormones in the body. HCG also plays a role in controlling womens metabolism.

HCG was first connected with weight loss by Dr. Albert T.W. Simeons back in the 60s and 70s. He gave HCG to boys with low testosterone levels. He found out that the boys starts to lose abnormal belly fat and had slimmed down. From this observation he conducted research. He experimented with various amounts of HCG and its relation to metabolism and weight loss.

Eventually, he discovered through his research that a large amount of belly fat can be lost through HCG hormone and strict diet. Soon, his breakthrough was discovered. Doctors from around the world were coming to Rome to learn more about his discovery.

In 1967, Dr. Simeons published Pounds and Inches: A New Approach to Obesity. The book summarizes and helps delivers Dr. Simeons weight loss findings to the world. In this protocol, the point of focus and the philosophy behind HCG diet is the abnormal fats. HCG hormone allows the body to burn up abnormal fats by working on the brains hypothalamus. Hypothalamus performs important functions such as controlling the appetite and mobilizing stubborn fats. Research shows that following the protocol, HCG hormone can help curb and eliminate cravings for sugar and starch.

In Dr. Simeons Pounds and Inches Away, he said that obesity in all its many forms is due to an abnormal functioning of some part of the body. He believed that abnormal buildup of fats is caused by a disorder and not just by eating more than normal. In his opening pages, he discussed issues of obesity alongside his theory about the accumulating fat disorder. He also tackled ways on how correct it through the three phases of HCG diet.

In the early Neolithic times, a change took place which accounts for the development of todays obesity. The change was the institution of regular meals, the three-meal system. Through Dr. Simeons writing, he examines the concept of regular meals and its connection to stored fats. He discussed that in the Pre-Neolithic time man only ate when he was hungry. When man eats, he only eats as much as he requires stilling the pangs of hunger. Much of his food is unrefined and raw.

But with the advent of regular meals, the body had to take more food at a faster rate. This contributes to an extremely unhealthy trend. Each meal provides the body with nourishment that is not needed at the time. So this nourishment has to be stored somewhere thus leading to obesity we now see. He further emphasized that rather than the regular meals, the pre-Neolithic diet is what our body needs.

Dr. Simeons establishes that body fats are of three types.

It fills the gap between organs, a sort of packing material. It also performs an important function such as protecting the arteries, providing beddings for kidney and keeping the skin taut and smooth. Structural fats also provide the springy cushion under the bones of the feet.

It is the normal reserve of fuel that can be used by the body for energy. Normal fat contains a high amount of calories in a small amount of space. It is reserved for muscular activity and for the maintenance of body temperature. The normal and structural normal fats are both important. Even if the fats will accumulate in the body, it is completely normal and can never be considered obese.

These fats are created by the high intake of sugar and starch in the modern diet. Abnormal fats cause obesity. It is found around the hips, buttocks, stomach and thigh. Abnormal fat is a potential reserve of fuel however it is not readily available to the body. Without proper weight loss methods, it will remain in the body.

When obese dieters try to reduce by eating less, they first lose their normal fat reserves. When these are used up the body switches to structural fats and only as a last resort will the body uses the abnormal fats. However, by that time the body is too hungry and too weak to properly exercise. Yet the body has changed very little.

There are many glands in the body that regulates normal body activities. This gland includes the pituitary glands, thyroid glands and adrenal glands. Dr. Simeons debunks various obesity myths around these glands and connects it to weight loss. However, after a series of test, he found out that there is no correlation among the glands with weight loss.

Dr. Simeons made an interesting connection between the concept of a bank and how fat works in our body. Our fat storage works like bank accounts. When the body absorbs more fuel than what is needed, the rest is locked away for large amounts of time.

In order to lose weight, he emphasizes that we must understand how our body deposits and withdraws fat. When we eat large amounts of food all at once the fat deposit grows rapidly. This system of eating causes an exhaustion of the fat-bank. The fat center will take a large amount of food than the usual. This overpowers the Diencephalon or Hypothalamus, the part of the brain that manages the withdrawal and deposit of fats which leads to obesity.

Dr. Simeons narrowed the main causes of obesity into three.

1. Psychological aspect - Dr. Simeons believed that emotional eating is an instinct gratification by a part of the brain. When a person is unhappy and lonely he can use this outlet to pent-up instinct pressure. When this happens, no amount of happiness and gratification of other instinct can correct the condition.

2. Compulsive eating - Dr. Simeons believed that most people who are obese do not suffer from compulsive eating. They are truly hungry. Their sudden desire for sweets and other foods can allay their pangs of hunger. However, some obese does experience compulsive eating. It comes on with an attack and not because of real hunger.

3. Reluctance in losing weight - Dr. Simeons points out that some patients do not like the idea of losing weight. They are deeply attached to their fats. Some are afraid to lose weight fearing that people will like or be jealous of their figure. Others are deeply attached to their obese childhood. To some, being obese is their source of pride.

Dr. Simeons also studied the diencephalon or hypothalamus. He connects it with how the body stores and burn fuel. He believed that hypothalamus has something to do with how the body stores fat. He thought that if he can tap into the diencephalon center, he could discover ways on how obese can lose weight that has not yet examined.

There are early signs and symptoms of obesity as concluded by Dr. Simeon.

Common signs include:

1. A buildup of excessive fats around the hips, thighs, abdomen, upper arms and chin.

Less obvious signs which were examined by Simeon to be true with obese:

1. Two upper front teeth that are disproportionately large.

2. Dimple on both sides of the sacral bone just above the buttocks.

3. A pad of fat on the inside of the knees.

Clinical symptoms of obesity include:

1. Rheumatic pains

2. Frequent headaches

3. Frequent headaches

4. Lethargy

Dr. Simeons first used HCG to help speed up puberty with underdeveloped children in India. He gave them several hundred international units twice a week. As a result of these injections, Dr. Simeon made a few discoveries.

1.First, the small daily dose was just as effective as the larger dose given twice a week.

2.Second and one of the most important discoveries was that the patients began to lose large appetite even without being on a restrictive diet.

3.Third, he noticed that the body shapes began to change. He believed that this was because of the abnormal fats moving away from the hips. The fats become available as fuel for the body to burn. The abnormal fats are a new source of fuel which can be used as a replacement for foods. This answers his questions as to why the boys were not hungry even on a restricted diet.

4.A higher dose of HCG does not cause any harm to the body.

5.Patients on 500 calorie diet were able to go on their normal day.

His discoveries had made it clear that with HCG, the body can transition from using the normal fat reserves to the abnormal fats.

Dr. Simeon began to develop his theory of HCG injections and weight loss after a series of test. He discussed how pregnant woman can drastically lose weight without feeling hungry. He also believed that in pregnant woman abnormal deposit of fat is not created due to the presence of enormous quantities of HCG in the body.

According to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), about two-thirds of adults in the United States are overweight or obese, putting them at risk for health problems like diabetes and heart disease. Many peopleabout 114 millionstruggle to lose weight, spending $60 billion or more on weight loss products each year.

Experts agree that the healthiest way to lose is weight is gradually, through lifestyle changesmaking healthy food choices, watching portion size, and exercising each day. Still, many dieters are drawn to the quick weight loss promises of the human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) diet. They wonder: Does it work? Is it safe?

Decades of scientific research have shown that hCG does not help people who are overweight or obese to lose extra pounds. So why do people lose weight on the hCG diet? Doctors say its not the hCG. People lose weight because theyre only eating 500 calories per day on the diet.

Experts worry that this diet puts peoples health at risk.

In general, women need 1,600 to 2,400 calories per day and men need 2,000 to 3,000 calories per day to maintain a healthy weight. Following a healthy diet when eating only 500 calories a day is possible. But eating so few calories could be unsafe and should be done only under a doctors guidance. Even if youre not dieting, using hCG could be harmful.

Human chorionic gonadotropin is a hormone produced during pregnancy to help nourish the growing fetus. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved hCG for a number of medical uses. Health care providers understand that hormones are powerful and must be prescribed with caution. A bit too much or too little of any hormone can result in health problems. For this reason, doctors must keep a close watch on treatments that affect hormone levels.

Besides using hCG to treat infertility and other approved purposes, some people have been using hCG hoping to lose weight and reshape their bodies. The FDA has never approved hCG for this purpose, however.

According to the FDA, there is no scientific proof that hCG increases weight loss beyond what people lose from cutting back on calories. Many research studies have shown that hCG does not move fat away from problem areas in the body or decrease the feeling of hunger that goes with low-calorie diets.

Whether or not an over-the-counter product actually contains hCG, doctors have concerns about the safety of dietary supplements. The FDA does not regulate food supplements the way it regulates prescription drugs. So trying to figure out if a particular product is safe can be confusing.

Internet sites selling hCG products online, for example, often do not list the ingredients in their product. Even when ingredients are clearly listed on the package, there is no guarantee that the contents are exactly what the package says. Supplements can contain too much or too little of the ingredient you wantor none at all. They can contain potentially harmful substances that arent listed on the label. Evena product labeled natural is not necessarily safe.

Doctors agree that the best way to lose extra pounds and keep them off is to eat a healthy diet with plenty of whole grains, vegetablesincluding legumes like peas and beansand fresh fruits, and to limit fried foods or fatty meat products. Drinking water instead of sugary sodas and being sure to exercise for 30 minutes a day, most days of the week, are also key.

So, what do I mean by fats and oils? Foods that are high in fats and oils. Avocados, olives, chicken wings, eggs, cheese, butter, sour cream, guacamole, croissants, whipped cream, bacon, mayonnaise, fish oils, tuna, salmon, nuts of all kinds, coconut, fried foods like Bloomin Onions from Outback Steakhouse, Fettucini Alfredo, basically any high-fat, low sugar foods. High sugar foods will make you want more sugar and will not work to curb your appetite so keep to all the high fat, low sugar foods you limit yourself on normally. You will not be able to have these again until you reach your goal weight, so HAVE A BLAST and eat as much of them as you can stand!

Dont worry about gaining weight on these 2-3 days! You WILL drop this weight, and much more, the first WEEK you are on the program. Remember, this program works and works FAST!

Plan to start Phase 2 now. Go through the program and READ EVERYTHING. Get your groceries. Plan your meals. Buy your other supplies. Be INTENTIONAL on your goal.


Yes, I know. I sound like a broken record when it comes to cheating. Dont do it! Even a little cheating will set you back a few days, stall your weight loss, make you HUNGRY and make you want to cheat MORE. Is that what you really want? Of course not! This is where you have to look at the REASON you want to cheat and DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT. We dont want you to be on the weight loss program for a long time and neither do you. Stick with it, as written, and you will reach your goal sooner and be LESS HUNGRY. It really works!

We get this question a lot. The bottom line is that you can eat whatever you choose to eat. You are an adult and make your own choices.

These are the same choices, I gently point out to you, that caused you to gain weight and now to decide to lose weight. Dr. Simeon tested, retested and tested again all the possible variations of the hCG with different combinations of food for over 50 years. Remember that it isnt just the calories you are eating, its how the foods work together that helps you lose weight so rapidly and not feel hungry.

Cheating a little on a normal diet doesnt affect much. But on our program, even a little bit of something not on the approved food list will disturb your body chemistry and will have three undesirable consequences: you will set back your weight loss by about three days, you WILL be HUNGRY and your METABOLISM will not get RE-SET. Especially if you eat any form of sugar or fat in Phase 2. Thats why we say so often that this is not a forever diet. Keep on the program as it is until you reach your goal weight and THEN experiment by slowly adding new foods. It happens very quickly when you follow the program.

Other diets, even other hCG based diets, allow different good foods than what is on our food list. We try to stay as true to the original as possible with a few minor changes in protein for vegetarians. Again, 50 years is a long time to catch up to what Dr. Simeon has already done. The way the foods work together is very important.

One other thing. There are MANY variations of the hCG enhanced diet out there. Ours is different in that your Homeopathic hCG compound is not just hCG but has other frequencies imprinted that help to balance your individual body. As you progress on the program, your body changes very rapidly in all aspects physically, mentally and emotionally. Vegetarians can expect to lose weight on our program at a rate of up to about 1/4 to 1/2 pound per day when closely following the protocol.

The protein substitutions are as follows.

3.5 ounces of meat protein will be replaced with:

eggs- 1 whole egg plus 3 egg whites (1 yolk, 4 whites)

2 cups skim milk (cows milk)

tofu (3.5 oz)

1/2 cup low fat cottage cheese

Soy milk can be used instead of cows milk IF IT HAS NO SUGARS.

These are the only substitutions. Some vegetarians eat fish so that may be an option for you, too. The vegetables, starches, fruits and liquids are exactly the same as our non-vegetarian weight loss program. Of course, your personalized Homeopathic hCG compound will address your individual needs.
