The Geordie Shore star was candid in admitting her struggles with getting the right balance between food and fitness

MARNIE Simpson has candidly opened up on her teenage struggle with food admitting she lived on lettuce and hit the gym hard when her mum relocated to America.

The Geordie Shore favourite spoke out after her fellow reality show pal Lauren Pope and fitness fan Chloe Madeley had been targeted by trolls for their weight, and branded too thin.

Lifting the lid on her own battles the Newcastle lass revealed to Star magazine: I went too far when I was 19.

I was a size 4 and lived on lettuce. As soon as I ate anything, Id rush to the gym.

My mum moved to Las Vegas for four years and I think that affected me.

The MTV stunner, who recently split with Towie star Lewis Bloor, has now switched her thinking on workouts and diet.

She added: Theres nothing wrong with being addicted to exercise, as long as you are eating right.

The party-loving star has also confessed she didn't behave like an "appropriate girlfriend" during her time with Lewis, who she hooked up with on Celebrity Big Brother.

Marnie said she did not always actlike a ladywhile filming the new series of Geordie Shore, which left her ex-boyfriend Lewis embarrassed.

Although she doesnt go into specific details about her antics, Marnie has admitted the reasons behind their recent break-up are not black and white.

Writing in her latest column forStarmagazine, Marnie said:I didnt behave like a lady or an appropriate girlfriend when I was filming Geordie Shore, and that embarrasses him.

Marnie and Lewis relationship hit the skids last month.

The couple had enjoyed a whirlwind romance since meeting on Celebrity Big Brother, but it was then revealed that Lewis had cheated.
