Answer: Many double-blind studies have been conducted that give the answer to this question. If you just do the diet without the HCG injections, you will, in fact lose weight. The problem is, during the diet you will be losing muscle and structural fat; as opposed to abnormal fat deposits in the problem areas. Your body will quickly go into starvation mode, shutting down your thyroid and slowing your metabolism. This will cause lethargy, headaches, and irritability. When you finish the diet your metabolism will be lower than before and your hunger higher than before. You will not have achieved the results you want, and you will gain the weight back, and likely more, since your metabolism will be slower.

Answer: They state that HCG has no known effect on fat mobilization, reducing appetite or sense of hunger, or body fat distribution. They further state that HCG has not been demonstrated to be an effective adjunct therapy in the treatment of obesity and does not increase fat losses beyond that resulting from caloric restriction. These statements are blatantly and flagrantly false. The truth is that in all properly conducted studies, people on the diet with HCG have, in fact, lost both weight and inches, and much more than placebo group. These dieters have seena dramatic reshaping and re-sculpting of their bodies.

Answer: 500 calories a day is insufficient by itself, but in conjunction with HCG, you are burning thousands of calories, a day which is why most people are not hungry or tired while on the HCG protocol. Moreover, research has demonstrated that low caloric intake, with nutritional supplementation, increases longevity. (50% reduction in calories, NOT 500 calories, so living on 500 calories a day would not be healthy)

Answer: The first two days on injections you are eating normally, possibly more than usual. The third day is your first day on 500 calories. So, the fourth day you should see your first drop in weight.

Answer: No. Dr. Simeons was very particular in his research about how even the very smallest change or variation would slow down or stop the fat burning process completely. He said that the diet used in conjunction with the HCG injections must not exceed 500 calories per day. He also stated that the way these calories are made up is of the utmost importance. He pointed out that if a patient dropped the apple and had a little more protein he would not be getting any more calories, but he would not lose weight. There are a number of foods, particularly fruits and vegetables, which have the same or even lower caloric values than those listed as permissible. However, when substitutions are made Simeons found that they interfere with the regular loss of weight under HCG. If you want optimal results, follow Simeons protocol completely. If you want to test the waters and try something different, such as eating whatever you want without exceeding 500 calories, you can do that, but at your own risk.

Answer: You may have some hunger between one and seven days. If you follow the instructions to load up on calories the first two days, this will not be as noticeable. Initially, Dr. Simeons, who is considered the founder and creator of the hCG diet, laid forth a diet list for anyone wanting to lose weight using either hCG drops or injections. The list was originally published during the 1950s as the Dr. Simeons Protocol. It remains a viable option for anyone seeking to not only lose weight but also keep it off.

The original 500 calorie VLCD (very-low-calorie diet) dietary menu created by Dr. Simeons remains the benchmark for the hCG diet. Although many newer and more modern hCG dietary creations have emerged, the tried and true choices still hold considerable value. They allow a dieter to keep it simple and, in essence, return to the very basics.

The VLCD phase usually starts on day three and continues up to day 40. During this time period, it is imperative that you follow a specific food list to achieve success with your hCG diet.

Here is what a typical day on the hCG diet consists of when it comes to maintaining the low-calorie diet.

Breakfast: You can enjoy any quantity of black or green tea. However, it is imperative that you drink the concoction without sugar or creamer. Use one tablespoon of milk if you desire but do not use more during the next 24 hour time frame. Saccharin or stevia may also be used.

Lunch: At lunch, you can choose from 3.5 ounces of chicken breast, white fish, beef, veal, crab, shrimp or lobster. Remember that when consuming the meat, you must remove all visible signs of fat. Also, ask the butcher to only provide you with lean specimens. You are not allowed to eat tuna, salmon, picked or dried fish, or eel. Some advocate of the hCG diet plan has successfully used tuna packed in water but, remember, tuna is not a part of Dr. Simeons original 500 calorie food list

During lunch, you can choose one vegetable such as cucumbers, green salad, chard spinach, chicory, beet-greens, tomatoes, celery, red radishes, asparagus, onions, fennel, and cabbage. Your carb option can consist of a melba toast cracker or a breadstick. Finally, you can add a fruit to your lunch such as a strawberry, orange, one small apple, or grapefruit.

Dinner: For dinner, you can repeat the same choices as lunch to create a low-calorie meal that also contains nutritious choices.

Many dieters opt to chew sugarless gum throughout the day as a way to satisfy their hunger cravings. Water throughout the day is also another option to relieve your hunger.

When following the hCG diet plan there is no reason that you have to live with dull food choices that lack any significant spices or flavors. You can use a few condiments to make your food choices more appetizing and palatable.

According to Dr. Simeons low-calorie hCG diet he writes in his manuscript, In many countries specially prepared unsweetened and low-calorie foods are freely available, and some of these can be tentatively used, the total daily intake must not exceed 500 Calories if the best possible results are to be obtained, that the daily ration should contain 200 grams of fat-free protein and a very small amount of starch.

The HCG diet involves caloric restrictions and regular injections of the HCG hormone. According to proponents of the diet, the HCG hormone, which occurs naturally in pregnant women, helps the body lose weight quickly and efficiently. When the hormone enters your body, it can suppress hunger, reduce muscle loss, and fix other hormone imbalances. A number of different HCG diet protocols exist, but most follow the same basic diet plan and phases.

During the main phase of the diet, you will follow the HCG 500 calorie diet meal plan. The dramatic drop in calories ensures that you lose weight quickly. The HCG diet meal plan, which was outlined in the book Pounds & Inches by Dr. A.T.W. Simeons, includes just two meals per day. You will start the day with coffee or tea in unlimited quantities for breakfast. In your beverage, you can use saccharin or stevia sweeteners and a single tablespoon of milk. In addition, you can have one Melba toast or a single breadstick. To close out the meal, you can choose from an apple, a half of a grapefruit, a handful of strawberries, or an orange. If you like, you can eat the breadstick or the fruit as a snack between meals. The meal options stay the same until you are finished with the main phase of the diet.

In addition to the regular lunch and dinner foods, the HCG meal plan allows you to use the juice of a single lemon each day. While you are cooking, you can use almost any type of spice, garlic, and vinegar, but you may not use butter, oil, or any type of dressing. The diet permits you to drink water, coffee, and tea in any quantity throughout the day. As a guide, you should aim for approximately two liters of fluid each day.

Given the limited number of allotted calories on the HCG diet meal plan, excellent recipes are crucial to success. For lunch, you might make an apple chicken salad with cooked chicken, a diced apple, and diced celery, mixed with lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, cardamom, salt, and stevia to taste. At dinner, you could have roasted white fish paired with pickles made from a cucumber, garlic, vinegar, lemon juice, and salt. If you are struggling to find recipes that add flavor to your meat and vegetables, try making HCG-friendly sauces and marinades. Phase Zero: Pre-diet CleanseSome variations of the HCG diet preface the four phases of the HCG diet with a cleanse or detox. Although it is not necessary or required, a cleanse diet can help prepare your body and mind for the HCG diet phases. Any type of cleanse will work. If you want an extreme detoxification, you can choose a candida cleanse or a colon cleanse. For a less extreme option, you can spend a week eliminating all processed foods from your diet.

Phase OneDuring the first phase of the HCG diet, you increase your caloric and fat intakes for two days, focusing on high-fat foods. At the same time, you will take HCG injections. The goal of the first phase is to interfere with the way the body stores fat. The HCG will prevent the fat from accumulating in your body, which begins the process of lipid mobilization.

Phase TwoOn the third day of the HCG diet, youll begin the second phase. At this point, you will drop your diet down to the 500-calorie regimen, eating only the foods outlined in the Simeons protocol. You will also continue with the HCG injection. The second phase can be difficult, particularly at the beginning. The length of this phase depends on how much weight you have to lose. At a minimum, you should stick with the plan through twenty-three doses of HCG; this lower limit is for people who want to lose fifteen or fewer pounds. At a maximum, you can stay in the second phase until youve reached forty doses of HCG. You should plan the specific dosage with your doctor. After youre finished with the HCG, you must remain on the 500-calorie diet for three days.

Phase ThreeDuring the third phase of the HCG diet, which lasts three to four weeks, you will maintain your new weight. Some variations of the HCG diet advise you to avoid starches and sugars during the third phase; others require that you avoid milk and excessive fat. After a minimum of twenty-three days, you can begin a new round of HCG. Otherwise, you will move on to the last phase.

Phase FourThe final phase of the HCG diet involves maintaining your weight. Depending on your size and physiology, you will need to eat enough calories to prevent further weight loss or gain. Your caloric intake will usually fall somewhere between 1,500 and 2,500 calories per day; your doctor can help you determine the ideal intake level. Although you will not need to follow the HCG diet meal plan, it is safest to eat clean, unprocessed foods while you maintain your weight.

On a recent episode of Celebrity physician Dr. Mehmet Oz's talk show, Dr. Oz said that he believes the HCG diet merits further investigation. A PLATEAUA plateau lasts 4-6 days and frequently occurs during the second half of a full (40 day) course, particularly in patients that have been doing well and whose overall average of nearly a pound per effective injection (injection 3 and on) has been maintained. Those who are losing more than the average, all have a plateau sooner or later. A plateau always corrects itself, but many patients who have become accustomed to a regular daily loss get unnecessarily worried. A plateau does not mean that you are no longer responding normally to treatment.

For such cases we consider it permissible to break up the plateau. This can be done with an apple day. An apple day begins at 11am and continues until just before 9pm. The patients are instructed to eat six large apples whenever they feel the desire, generally one every three to four hours. During an apple-day no other food or liquids except plain water are allowed and of water they may only drink just enough to quench an uncomfortable thirst if eating an apple still leaves them thirsty. The apple-day produces a gratifying loss of weight on the following day, chiefly due to the elimination of water and loosening of impacted stool. This water is not regained when the patients resume their normal 500-calorie diet at lunch, and on the following days they continue to lose weight satisfactorily.

If you stop losing weight dont assume you are having a plateau call office to discuss with staff.

CONSTIPATIONIf you are not losing a pound a day, the most common cause is constipation. Keep hydrated to avoid constipation. An excess of water keeps the feces soft, and that is very important in the obese, who commonly suffer from constipation and spastic colon.

While under treatment we rarely permit the use of any kind of laxative except bulk forming fiber which is not a typical laxative as it is not chemically altering your retention of water. It is normal to have a reduction in the amount of bowel movements as compared to before, but you SHOULD be having at least one bowel movement daily. If not, this could account for a lack of weight loss. Sugar free Metamucil 20 minutes before lunch and dinner or two back-to-back colonics can be helpful.

If you have a long history of constipation (not having at least one bowel movement per day) we suggest that you eliminate ALL MILK products (yogurt, ice cream, and especially cheese). To rebuild an atrophied colon it may take a year of a dairy free diet and a great increase in fiber. To hasten results try doing a course of colonics (ten sessions $600).

COSMETICSWhen no dietary error is found, we look at cosmetics. Most find it hard to believe that fats, oils, creams and ointments applied to the skin are absorbed and can interfere with the weight reduction by HCG, just as if it had been eaten. This incredible sensitivity to even such very minor increases in nutritional intake is a peculiar feature of the HCG method. For instance, its been found that persons who habitually handle organic fats, such as workers in beauty parlors, masseurs, butchers, etc. never show what is considered a satisfactory loss of weight unless they can avoid fat coming into contact with their skin. We encourage patients to continue using cosmetics as they normally would but to consider elimination if they stop losing a pound a day.
