After over a decade of trying hard to lose weight, Bryan O'Keeffe finally lost 137 pounds in 2022.

Bryan O'Keeffe told Insider that one of the key lessons that he wants to share with others is that he analysed his previous attempts.

He revealed that his previous attempts were "always one step forward, two steps back." He found his triggers.

"My triggers were food delivery and nights out with my family and friends. My answer to this? Building a bubble around myself so these triggers can't get in the way," he told the media and said that blocking takeout apps is one way of cutting off temptation.

Dawn, 23, submitted her eating routine for Insider's Nutrition Clinic, where qualified dietitians and registered nutritionists offer advice on readers' eating habits.

She told Insider her goal is to lose fat and build muscle.

Dawn said her lifestyle has been extremely sedentary until recently but she's just started doing 30-minute home workouts in the evening six days a week.

"Other than the workout, I have little opportunity to go out for a walk as my job usually requires me to sit at my desk for most of the day," Dawn said.

"I eat pretty much the same thing every day because it's most convenient," she said. "It's too much of a hassle for me to change the menu daily while making sure I'm getting enough of each food group. I try to have some variety within the day itself (e.g. eating different fruit for breakfast and dinner)."

Registered nutritionist Sophie Bertrand told Insider that Dawn needs to ensure she's strength training, eating enough protein, and not over-exercising or over-restricting.

"Cardiovascular exercise is important for weight maintenance and overall health but strength training is necessary to alter body composition and obtain or build muscle mass," she said. "In addition to this, a well balanced diet that contains enough protein is essential for supporting muscle growth."

While a calorie deficit is required for fat loss, "extreme calorie restriction and over-exercising is a dangerous road and will not lead to desirable long-term results," Bertrand said.

Dawn usually eats overnight oats for breakfast, made from rolled oats and low-sugar soy milk, and topped with defrosted frozen blueberries and fat-free vanilla yogurt.

"Dawn eats a nutritious breakfast but could switch her fat-free vanilla yogurt to Greek yogurt," Bertrand said.

This is because Greek yogurt is higher in protein and fat-free sweetened yogurts tend to contain artificial sweeteners and additives.

She also recommended limiting processed foods as they are generally easier to overeat.

At lunchtime Dawn eats a large multigrain tortilla wrap filled with a handful of reduced fat mozzarella, a spoonful of reduced fat dip (such as French onion, tzatziki, or hummus), pre-packaged turkey or chicken breast, and leaf salad, she said.

Bertrand said that a diet rich in quality protein like chicken and turkey but also fish, eggs, tofu, and legumes has been shown to help with fat loss and preserving muscle mass.

Including protein at every meal is great but Dawn could consider eating a wider variety of protein by having more plant-based sources like beans which also provide fiber.

"Making sure she has enough fiber in her diet is also key as this can support satiety and support digestive health," Bertrand said. "Eating a fiber-rich diet has also been suggested to help decrease overall body fat."

For dinner, Dawn eats fruit (usually two kiwis and another piece, depending on what's in season) with a large dollop of unsalted natural peanut butter, sometimes with a cup of soy milk and 20 to 30 almonds.

Bertrand advised Dawn to eat a more nutritionally balanced dinner such as sweet potato or wholegrain pasta with fish or tofu and vegetables.

"Variety is extremely beneficial when it comes to diet as the greater the variety, the more diverse range of nutrients the body has to thrive," Bertrand said. "An easy tip is to freeze pre-chopped veg such as peppers and onions and bags of leafy greens. You can cook them in batches and easily add them to meals."

Bertrand also cautioned Dawn not to get hung up on her weight while trying to lose fat, as the number on the scale does not necessarily reflect her progress or health. This is because Dawn may be gaining muscle or experiencing water weight fluctuations.

"You may be all round happier ditching the scales regardless of your goals and focusing on the quality of your diet and how you feel," Bertrand said.

Nighttime habits that help you lose weight fall into two buckets: (1) habits that affect how your body processes things while you sleep and (2) habits that help you get a restful night's sleep so you feel energized and ready to take on the next day.

When you get enough Zzzs (seven to nine hours), you'll have enough energy the following day to partake in activities that torch calories: "In order to effectively lose weight, you need to have the energy to burn enough calories throughout the day," says Dr. Bohl. "No matter the time you eat, your body should process the calories in the same way. That said, people who tend to eat later into the night also tend to eat more calorie-dense food or may eat not because they're hungry, but because they're bored," he explains. "Avoiding eating late at night before bed is a good way to make sure you aren't consuming extra calories that you don't really need."

Don't be too shocked to hear that there's an exception to habit #1. If you're in the mood for a pre-bedtime snack, make sure it contains casein protein, such as dairy products.

"Casein protein is slower-digesting, so a pre-bedtime snack can give your body protein it can use throughout the night for repairing and building muscle," Dr. Bohl explains.

If you work out too close to your bedtime, you may find it challenging to fall to sleep. But, Dr. Bohl says the human body continues to torch calories during the hours following a workout.

"So, if you time your exercise correctly (such as a late afternoon workout session or an evening walk), you will continue to burn extra calories into your sleep time," he adds.

How many times have you enjoyed a night out with friends and found yourself waking up multiple times in the middle of the night? Drinking alcoholic beverages before bed is a bad habit for more than one reason.

"Alcohol comes with a lot of excess calories, so avoiding alcohol before bed fits into the first bucket as well and is a good way to keep your overall caloric intake lower," Dr. Bohl explains. "But alcohol also disrupts sleep, so if you drink a lot before bed, you might not feel as well-rested in the morning."

"Some research suggests that temperature can impact how the body processes fat, and sleeping in a cooler room can help burn more calories overnight," Dr. Bohl tells us.

Plus, a cool room temperature promotes a great night's sleep! According to a poll by the National Sleep Foundation, sleeping in a cool environment is one of the most crucial aspects of solid, restful sleep. The ideal temperature to set your bedroom at is about 65 degrees Fahrenheit.

All the screens in your lifeyour phone, laptop, and TVemit blue light that can totally mess up your circadian rhythm, also known as "your natural sleep/wake cycle," Dr. Bohl explains.

If you use electronics too close to bedtime, you'll likely find it much more difficult to fall asleep. "[This can cut] into the hours you need and make it so you aren't as refreshed in the morning," Dr. Bohl adds.

Winding down before you hit the sheets can alleviate any stresses you had during the day and calm your running mind. Whether you love sipping chamomile tea or drawing a soothing bath with bath salts, do whatever works best for you.

"If you're someone who has difficulty falling asleep, it can help to have a relaxing ritual that you do every night. This can help take your mind off the day's stresses so that when you're ready to get into bed, you're ready to drift off to sleep," Dr. Bohl concludes.

The TLC star started the video by welcoming her followers to "another" candy review before admitting that she had already opened the cheesecake favor.

She informed her fans that they were "so good" and that her "nephews love them."

The 36-year-old then showed off her "favorite" caramel M&M's flavor, before asking viewers to "excuse" the way she looks.

There would be no forgiveness needed as Tammy's fans recently shared their delight at the reality star looking "so happy" after her extreme weight loss.

Tammy was spotted smiling and looking healthier whilechatting to her sister Amyin Evansville,Indiana, earlier this week.

The siblings happily posed for snaps at Walmart and outside the store.

Amy wore a black and grey sweatshirt, black athletic pants, and a floral dress over her pants.

Tammy, meanwhile, was seen wearing a grey cardigan and a flowy blue dress while sporting her wedding ring and slippers.

Tammy recently crossed a major weight-loss milestone, and her fans can't stop gushing about it.

While the sisters and Justin focused on giving reviews of the drinks, fans couldn't help but focus on Tammy.

For the first time, followers got a glimpse of theTV personality sitting in the front seat of a car, something she was unable to do prior to her weight loss surgery.

"I'm gonna cry at Tammy being in the front seat. YOU DID THIS GIRL! So proud of you," one fans said at the time.

Another wrote: "Seeing Tammy sit up front in a seat makes me so proud and happy."

When Tammy first arrived at a weight loss rehabilitation facility inOhioshe weighed 717 pounds and her goal weight to get approved for surgery was 550 pounds.

During this season of 1000-lb Sisters, fans were finally able to witness the star shed the pounds and get approved for life-saving bariatric surgery.

Bariatric surgery is an operation on the digestive system to help a patient loseweight quickly in extreme situations.

Tammysuccessfully underwent the procedurein the summer of 2022.

However, the show has not yet caught up with real life.

Last month, The U.S. Sun was able to exclusively reveal thatshe now weighs just over 400 pounds.

TheKentucky native has lost over 300 pounds, and she's nearly half the size she was when she entered rehab.

Winter used to weigh 330 pounds when she decided to change her life. In the last two years, Winter lost an impressive 100 pounds. Its been a slow and steady journey for Winter, who used exercise and diet to add to her new lifestyle. Winter was inspired to undergo weight loss surgery when she saw The Weight Loss Barbie, aka Kayla La Vende, on TikTok. A lot of research later, which involved looking into the doctors who performed Kaylas surgery, Winter was ready for her sleeve gastrectomy, a procedure which shrinks the stomach for the purpose of long-term weight loss. Winter had to face opposition from her family, especially Chantel and her mom. The surgeon was going to remove 75 percent of Winters stomach. By then, Winter had already tried to lose weight with conventional methods. She was 50 pounds lighter and already flaunting her toned figure on Instagram.

The next step in Winters weight loss journey would be to get plastic surgery. 90 Day Fianc celeb Winter might be thinking of getting a tummy tuck soon, although she hasnt discussed the details with her fans yet. Meanwhile, the future of The Family Chantel on TLC remains a mystery. With Chantel and Pedros split, the show might not get a season 5, as the couple has gone their separate ways. If you've been intimidated by the weight room in the past, you are not alone. Nevertheless, lifting weights is a very important part of any fitness program designed to slow or reverse the aging process.

You need to lift weights that are challenging for a low number of repetitions. They should feel heavy relative to your current strength. I recommend to all my 50-year-old and older clients that they perform sets of six to 12 repetitions using a weight that leaves one to repetitions "in the tank" after the first set.

Mobility is a vital component of reducing injury and ensuring your joints maintain a normal, functional range of motion. Mobility can include things like yoga, massage, foam rolling, stretching, and any other activities that incorporate some form of stretching or elongation of the muscles.6254a4d1642c605c54bf1cab17d50f1e

I usually recommend active forms of stretching such as yoga as opposed to passive stretching, but both have benefits. Incorporate 30 to 60 minutes of mobility activities three times per week in conjunction with your weight training for maximum benefits.

If you've been convinced to lift weights, you still need to use the right movements. Too often, clients are focused on isolation exercises such as biceps curls, triceps extensions, and leg extensions. While this type of weight exercise has a place in training, the focus should be on compound movements that load multiple muscles and joints.

In particular, be sure to include weighted movements like squats or deadlift variations that load the spine vertically. These provide the most benefit in terms of bones, muscle, and performance improvements.

Walking is a great addition to weight and mobility training. However, if you only walk on paved surfaces, you are missing out on some serious benefits. You may also risk aggravating your joints if the surfaces are always paved.

Walking on uneven surfaces such as sand, trails, rocky terrain, and other unpaved surfaces helps improve your balance and ankle strength while reducing the impact on your joints.

By far the absolute worst thing you can do is skip exercise altogether. While the best exercise programs for people 50 and older would follow the above recommendations, doing anything is always better than doing nothing.

Short walks, cardio machines, taking the stairs, and other activities are still worth shooting for even if weight training, yoga, and other methods are off the table. Take a walk and do some stretches at the very minimum. Your body will thank you now and later.
