All dieters need to consume protein foods, as it helps prevent muscle breakdown, to avoid slowing down metabolism. Another advantage is the ability to saturate for a long time, to maintain a constant level of sugar in the blood, which is important if you want to lose weight.

If you are thinking how to lose weight, start with correcting the diet to include more foods with high protein content. This advice was given by German nutritionists in the publication of the magazine Fit for Fun, along the way calling the best in their opinion protein products.

Soy flakes. Are an alternative to oatmeal: they are low-carb and nearly 50 percent consist of protein (containing more than 40 grams of protein per 100 grams of product). Well with muesli, smoothies, vegetables.

The Parmesan. He is recognized as a leader among protein cheese: 100 grams provide 38 grams of protein. In addition, it provides the body with important for weight loss mineral calcium, vitamin A.

Garci cheese. Applies to curd cheese and is one of the best protein products: gold portion is 30 grams of protein. Also there are a lot of calcium that acts as the fat burner.

Lean beef. Has amino acid profile similar to that of humans, strengthens the muscles, while every 100 grams of product give you 28 grams of protein. Experts recommend combining it with salads, vegetables.

Eat this, dont eat that.

As consumers, we are inundated with information about health and nutrition. There are many new recommendations to gain better health, get fit, lose weight and be healthier.

All this information can be a bit overwhelming. As consumers, we must be able to determine if the information is accurate and true, and not something that will harm our health now or in the future.

There are a few simple steps that we can take to help us determine if the information we receive is relevant, reliable and research based.

According to the article 10 Red Flags of Misleading Nutrition Claims, adapted for the Tufts University Health & Nutrition Letter from an earlier article by Julie Flaherty, editor of the Tufts Nutrition magazine, here are some warning signs to look out for.

nA quick fix. Diane McKay, assistant professor at Tufts University School of Medicine, leads a program that helps explain research so that we can better understand what the findings mean. McKay said, Dont be won over by official-sounding science terminology.

nDanger from a single food, product or regimen. Many times a food, or a substance in a food, is said to be bad for us. The reality is that the food may have other nutrients essential to maintaining good health that outweigh the negative effects. Refer to Is it a protein, whole grain, fruit, vegetable or dairy product?

nLists of good or bad foods. Many times, we just want to know what to eat and what to avoid. This can result in avoiding foods that are not necessarily harmful if we eat them occasionally. Will having ice cream occasionally harm us?

nA product claim that can fix us. These are claims that are too good to be true. Use some common sense when considering these claims. Look at the science behind the product. Is it a true research-based claim using reliable studies?

nScientific studies that draw simple conclusions. Adela Hruby, a researcher at Harvard School of Public Health who teaches a course on interpreting nutrition evidence for the Tufts communications certificate program, said, Many studies simply cant be boiled down to a headline. Is the conclusion accurate or does more research need to be done?

nSingle-study results. Recommendations based on a single study may not be as reliable as recommendations made after several studies. Be sure the science is proven true through several studies before you draw conclusions. Sometimes these studies go against what we have believed for years. Take a step back and look at the evidence.

nScientific studies not peer reviewed. Good scientific studies will include a process in which a group of peers deemed the research well-conducted, the results credible and the findings significant, Flaherty said.

nStatements against reputable agencies. A health statement may go against what the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the National Institutes of Health, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, or other reputable organizations recommend. Read and follow these trusted sources for reliable information.

nA claim that will help sell a product. Many times, a nutrition claim is just a way to help sell the latest greatest supplement, health fix, weight loss pill, etc. Look at who funded a study for help in determining whether the study is telling the whole truth. For example, a study on the benefits of plums funded by California plum growers could be biased.

nOne-size-fits-all approach. Watch for health claims drawn from a study that says it can help all people. This should be an immediate red flag. We are all different; what works for one person may not work for another.

So, before you make a major change in your diet, consult your doctor, read up about the claims and consult reliable sources for information that is accurate and trustworthy. Your health is your responsibility. Become an informed consumer, and dont let anyone take advantage of you or your familys health.

Until recently, eggs have been recommended by nutritionists as a healthy breakfast option because they're low in calories, high in protein, and full of nutrients, which made them sound like the perfect choice for someone who wants to build lean muscle or lose weight. But,a growing number ofstudies now indicate that eating eggs has a harmful impact on your risk of heart disease and increases your chances of dying a premature death.

A frequently asked question is: Whyshouldn't I eat eggs? Let's crack the code on the research, not the eggs. The debateare eggs healthy or unhealthyhas been ongoing among athletes, the medical community, and vegetarians versus vegans as the questions about egg safety, health, and the treatment of farmed hens rages on. The latest research suggests that Americans should eat little to no dietary cholesterol, which is a reversal and significant departure from the 2015 scientific guidelines report that stated: Cholesterol is not a nutrient of concern for overconsumption. Eggs whichare one of the highest sources of dietary cholesterol are now found to be harmful and even dangerous to anyoneat risk for heart disease risk.

If you are a plant-based eater who is having trouble giving up eggs or want your loved one totrade up their omelet for a JUST Eggs scramble, which is a near-perfect substitute for the real thing and made from mung beans, here are 6 reasons why youshould eliminate eggs from your diet to be healthier now, and live longer, and feel egg-cellent!

As most know, egg yolks are full of cholesterol. In one large egg, there is 187 mg of cholesterol. But that is not the actual reason to eliminate eggs. The killer element in the egg is the fatwhich can drive up your blood cholesterol, so while you may equate cholesterol in your diet with cholesterol in your blood, the actual truth is that the problem is eating saturated fat from animal products including eggs, dairy, meat, and poultry.

Whenyou eat fatty foods you drive up your blood cholesterol which eventually gets hardened into plaque and causes blockages in your arteries. This happens over years and once you get these plague deposits your heart can no longer pump blood to your body or organs and that's what causes heart disease and heart failure. Once you have plaque it's nearly impossible to reverse the damage although a plant-based diet has been shown to work.So if you want to avoid heart disease, heart attacks, strokes, and premature death they key is to avoid animal fat.

By eliminating eggs from your diet, you increase your chances ofliving longer. The Beet covered a recent study in JAMAwhichsuggests"thatswapping out eggs, meat and dairy for plant-based protein reduces your risk of mortality and heart disease by as much as 24 percent and 21 percent for women." The risk reduction was biggest when eggs were eliminated. Overall, eliminating animalprotein reduces risk by 15 percent, but when you throw out eggs as well your chances of living longer get that much better.

In thelong-term analysis reported by JAMA,29,615 adult men and women self-reported their diets with the controlled variable of daily egg consumption over a 17.5-year span. Victor W. Zhong, a nutritional epidemiologist led the research that measured the participant's health and found that participants who consumed as little as one-half of an egg, were significantly associated with a higher risk of cardiovascular disease and mortality. Dr. Zhong said:The higher the consumption of eggs, the greater the risk. Those who consumed less than one egg a week had no increased risk.To make sure you live a long and healthy life, eliminate eggs from your diet now, at any age.

Eating an egg daily is associated with an increased risk of type 2 diabetes in both men and women. In a majorstudy by the American Diabetes Association led by MDLuc Djouss, researchers used data from two randomized trials of 20,703 men and 36, 295 women. The median number of eggs the participants ate a week was one egg a week.

The follow up for men happened 20 years later and 11.7 years for women. The findings showed that frequent consumption of eggs was associated with higher BMIand increasedrisk of type 2 diabetes. For those people with diabetes, eating one egg a week appears to increase the risk of heart disease.

Consuming more than one egg per day is related to an "increased risk of HF [heart disease] among US male physicians." In a studyconducted byLuc Djouss and J Michael Gaziano, two MD's who work in the Department of Health at Brigham Women's Hospital in Boston, they measured the association between egg consumption and heart failure risk. In the cohort of 21, 275 participantswho were inthePhysicians Health Study I, they filled out a questionnaire about lifestyle behavior that impacts heart failure. After their follow-up of 20.4 years, the researchers found that among those who had died of heart failure, they had consumed an egg a day on average. So eating a scrambled or fried egg every day for 20 years increases your risk of heart failure.

Nutritionists recommend eggs for weight loss but they turn out to be a bad choice since they are full of fat and have zero fiber. Dietary fiber helps maintain healthy digestion, moves food through the body steadily, and is beneficial for weight loss, a healthy colon, and even protects women from breast cancer. Nutritionists and experts insist that a person should eat a high-fiber diet to maintain a healthy weight or promote weight loss if that is the goal. Ironically, eggs contain zero dietary fiber but some nutritionists recommend eating eggs for breakfast.

In addition, calories in eggs are mostly from fat: Of the 5 grams of fat in every egg, about 1/3 is from saturated fat, the worst kind of fat if you are trying to avoid heart disease. 'Sat fats' raise your LDL or the bad cholesterol that can cause spikes in your blood pressure and eventually lead to heart attacks and strokes.

One large egg, or 50 grams, contains 6 grams of protein, which isn't far off from the protein in vegan eggs which have no sat fat and often do contain fiber. If youeat JUSTEggs, for instance, which is made with mung bean, just 3 tablespoons contain 5 grams of plant-based protein and zero saturated fats.

Sir Paul McCartney said it best way back in 2010: "If slaughterhouses had glass walls, everyone would be vegetarian."The rockstar legend narrated this video that he created with PETA calledGlass Walls, which showcased the cruel behavior that takes place inside slaughterhouses.

The must-see video clips together behind the scenes footage of chickens who face excruciating pain when they are killed to be eaten or kept for their eggs. He says, "chickens are the most abused animals on the planet."Glass Wallsfilms thethousands of chickens piled in small cages on top of one anotherwith no room to flap their wings, inside of a poorly monitored slaughterhouse where workers don't appear to care if the birds suffer.

Farmers overfeed chickens to produce more meat, making it hard for the chicken to have enough strength to hold their own weight, many of them collapse and die in their cages. Unsanitary environments can cause diseases, which be transferred to the food we eat. A new report finds that the conditions in these factory farms make for an inevitable health pandemic to follow the one we are in currently. So far avian flu, swine flu, and now the novel coronavirus have all been traced back to the way animals are raised and then slaughtered for consumption.

"Researchers are now showing that low-carb, high-fat diets are more effective for weight loss, blood sugar management, cholesterol levels, feeling full and many more benefits that are all attributed to body ketogenics."

When following the plan, those hoping to slim can tuck into foods low in carbs and high in fat.

It is believed this helps the body enter into a state called ketosis which will burn fat.

Susie added: "Essentially a ketogenic diet is a very low carb (five percent total calories), high fat (75 percent total calories) and moderate protein (20 percent total calories) style of eating which encourages the body to generate cellular energy using a process known as ketosis where fats are burned for energy instead of sugar.

"When glucose levels fall short the body switches from using glucose for cellular metabolism into burning a particular type of fats called medium chain triglycerides."

When in ketosis, the body is thought to burn fat more quickly.

Those on the plan can tuck into low carb foods such as meat, fish, nuts, dairy, avocados and low-carb vegetables.

"Generally speaking it can take one or two days of restricting dietary carbs to under 50g a day (and increasing dietary fats) before the body switches into ketosis," Susie added.

"But this switch is readily accelerated by following an intermittent fasting plan."

Intermittent fasting is a diet plan which involves restricting when you eat to certain times of the day.

My close friend, Will Power, and a desire to get healthier to ensure many years ahead with my family, inspired me to lose 67 pounds since last summer, including 20 during the pandemic. Never to be outdone, even our dog, Buster, has dropped eight pounds since last year.

The refrigerator winks coquettishly. I freeze, then step back and counter with a head shake and combatant stare. I turn away. The snack armoire does the same, grabbing the enticement baton from the fridge and racing toward me. I turn away again. Home-baked chocolate chip cookies, still gooey and warm on the counter, tempt me with their aromatic sweetness. My salivary glands turn cartwheels, imagining the three-ring circus the sugar rush would trigger. I consider the offers. Then I consider my BP reading, HDL, LDL, arteries, and family, and usher temptation to the door. Another battle won.

Weight loss can be a maddening tug of war. Bad foods attempting to pull you in; better decisions gripping the rope tight and pulling back hard. Eleven months and 67 pounds later, Im winning the contest.

"Geez, Ive gained about 15 pounds from working at home during the pandemic," a dear friend confessed recently, gently patting his belly as would a parent atop their childs head for a good deed done. "How have you been able to continue losing weight during all this?"

I told the dear friend a good friend has helped: Will Power.

While the strategy may sound simple and perhaps trite, for me, its been true. Laboring up flights of stairs, and becoming winded after brief physical activity, moved me to call on Will Power to help. I had to set my mind right. My increased weight was destined to decrease my odds of a long, healthy life. We have two children in their teens. I imagined the milestones I might miss if I didnt do something immediately. I couldnt wait to address my weight any longer.

Keto, a no-carb, no-sugar regimen, as well as walking every day, has made me feel healthier than Ive been in years. Since the start of the pandemic, when weve all spent a great deal of time at home tempted by stress eating comfort foods, Ive managed to lose 20 of the 67 pounds.

Now, do I miss gobbling down a half-dozen of those cookies with a tall glass of chocolate milk in front of the TV? Do I miss pizza? Do I miss my wifes rigatoni and meatballs, with a few slices of Italian bread to sop up the homemade sauce? If youve tasted her sauce, you wouldnt need to ask the question. I miss, but resist. Will Power directs my attention to my young family and my age 63 next week and convinces me to opt for healthier fare. Easy? No. Difficult? Occasionally. Important? Tell me whats more important.

Cookies. Ice cream. Pizza. Rigatoni. Those are foods I miss. And when I decide to set keto aside and reincorporate them into my diet, Im determined to bring along a good friend to help me.

Because where theres a Will, there will be less to weigh.

Protein supplements: Kayla Itsines believes that one needn't take protein supplements and optimum protein can be obtained by eating a healthy balanced diet.

Proteins are required for maintaining muscle mass and metabolism

Protein-rich foods are important part of a healthy balanced diet. If you are someone who exercises regularly and is doing weight training, then protein-rich foods are of even more importance. They are macronutrients which help in building muscle mass and boost metabolism. If you are trying to lose weight, then proteins must be a part of your diet because they help in reducing appetite hunger levels, thus reducing overall calorie intake. However, the amount of protein that is necessary for you in a day may not be entirely obtained from diet.

This is especially true for body builders and even weight watchers at times. Over and above their diet, they often take protein powders and other protein supplements in order to increase their protein intake.

Experts seem to have a mixed bag of opinions when it comes to taking nutrition supplements. Celeb fitness trainer Kayla Itsines recently took to Instagram to talk about protein supplements.

Itsines believes that one needn't take protein supplements and optimum protein can be obtained by eating a healthy balanced diet. "many of you ladies ask me whether it's necessary to take high protein food supplements when you're training. i personally don't take supplements and i would never say that they are necessary... it is definitely possible to get all the protein you need by eating a healthy, balanced diet," she writes in the caption of her post.

She is right to point out that there are protein-rich foods which you can eat daily in order to increase your protein intake. Options include chicken, eggs, fish like tuna and salmon, milk and milk products, nuts and seeds and soy products are all foods that are a rich source of protein.

Lifestyle coach Luke Coutinho recommends including some protein-rich foods in every meal in order to increase your protein intake. For example, you can have a small bowl of nuts and seeds with your regular meals, or you can have an egg with every meal.
