LEE WARD: Find a meal plan you can live with – The Independent

Nov 11th, 2019

Like many in modern society, I have tried a variety of diet techniques, none of which has worked.

Dieting and I go way back.

There was the diet all the older ladies followed, which included copious amounts of cottage cheese.

Iremember when dieters were encouraged to eat at least a serving of liver each week. Talk about setting up a person to fail.

When low-fat diets came into fashion, liver was tossed out in favor of grilled, lean chicken breasts. Im sure Ive eated enough grilled, lean chicken breasts in my life to boggle the mind of Col. Harland Sanders.

I also remember the weiner, egg and banana diet, even if vaguely. It was something like:Eat three eggs for breakfast, three bananas for lunch and three weiners for dinner until you hit your desired weight or you die.

Some of us remember Dexatrim, a diet pill that nearly gave me a heart attack and did give some people strokes. It gives you something more to worry about than your dress size.

Now, were supposed eat a pound of bacon for breakfast and resist the temptation of a piece of dry toast.

My buddy Common Sense tells me the only diet that will work for anyone is one that restricts fat, carbs and calories to an amount appropriate for the dieter. It also wont let you get terribly hungry and it offers you a variety of food to provide you with the nutrition you need to function.

My current approach is to buy only meat, vegetables, fruits and a small amount of dairy, mostly in the form of creamer for coffee. Iwont buy any desserts, because Ifigure, in my office, doughnuts and cupcakes turn up at least once a week, soIll get plenty of those forbidden pastries without buying any myself.

Above all, I keep remembering my philosophy: Nobody is perfect, and with my intellect and charm, losing weight will kill me by making me perfect and, therefore, Iwould cease to exist.

I dont know if its true, but if it is, its in my best interest not to find out.
