Register-GuardEnough already!

By the last two weeks of a political campaign, I would think the majority of serious voters have decided who they will vote for.

Speaking for myself I'm more than weary of trashy, negative television political ads, which truly play very fast and loose with the truth, using the most unflattering photos of their opponent. This coupled with only focusing on what the opponent did wrong, or didn't do right.

Very little about the agenda of the accuser at all.

If you, like me, are tired of this juvenile media posturing and sparring, we should contact our representative(s) (how ironic) and let them know how we view this nonsense and demand the the ads must stick to the positive of one's agenda, and all political campaign ads on television must stop two weeks prior to the election.Any takers?

William M. Speicher, Creswell

I enjoy reading your paper and read it every morning. I am, however, getting tired of reading articles by Don Kahle constantly hammering on President Trump. Then there is Michael Gerson who says that if we vote for Joe Biden everything will turn up roses and our society will be back to normal again (whatever that is). Actually if you vote for Joe Biden you will be voting for Kamala Harris, since there is no telling how long Biden will last.

My point is Biden has issues with honesty that the media has not, or will not, touch upon. Mainly his dealings with Ukraine and his son Hunter. This is purposely being buried until the election is over as it shows a real deficit in the character of Biden. Right now the Senate is considering pursuing and the FBI agent who covered it up. There is nothing in the news about this, not even our local paper.

I do not go along with everything Trump does but I would just like a fair representation from the media on both sides, just not all against Trump and his agenda. I am hopeful this will happen before the election.

Sen. Jeff Merkley chose to lay low during the Black Lives Matter and antifa violence and destruction in downtown Portland, perhaps to condemn the lawbreakers would have risked alienating too many of the DemocraticParty's extremist supporters.

But after Trump sent in U.S. marshals to protect federal property, the senator forcefully jumped in, blaming the situation on the president's action. Perhaps if the president had done nothing, mayhem would be continuingand Merkley would still be silent.

Merkley blamed the severity of the forest fires in Oregon this summer on global warming. He seems ignorant of the decades-long buildup of fuel in our forests, that each summer now is subject to becoming raging infernos. The mismanagement policies that led to this mess have been heavily influenced by him and his environmentalists supporters.

As a professional politician, Merkley has grown out of touch with Oregon. To continue with him in the senate will be to subject Oregonians to more tough times ahead.

Over the last few weeks I have watched Alek Skarlatos attempt to paint Peter DeFazio as out of touch with his congressional district. Nothing could be further from the truth.

I have been fortunate to know DeFazio since 1988 while working for the city of Springfield. He has always been there for the Springfield community and the entire district he represents. He has been instrumental in bringing federal dollars to much needed transportation projects. He has always been there when we need him such as the tragic Thurston High School shooting and most recently the Holiday Farm fire.

His dedication to our community is without doubt. He makes countless trips back home from Washington, D.C. almost weekly. If you are in D.C .and want to meet with him his door is always open.

I recall being in D.C. when the New Carissa ran aground near Coos Bay.DeFazios focus on the problem was genuine and intense.

I have attended countless community events and he is almost always in attendance giving generously to his community. He is an elected official who deserves our support so he can continue to provide strong and thoughtful representation for us in Washington.

Gino Grimaldi, Springfield

Congressman Peter DeFazio has proven he's an effective fighter for Oregon workers, seniors and veterans; also for health care, safe bridges, good roads, firefighting, clean water and common sense. As transportation committee chairman, DeFazio has supported the infrastructure that underpins our economy. He opposes unfair trade deals, congressional pay raises (refusing to take his own) and corporate giveaways at taxpayer expense. His seniority will now mean he can get even more work done.

Why would anyone want to replace such a rock-solid, effective congressman with an unknown candidate who has zero experience in governing?

Check out DeFazio's track record of substance and accomplishments. Then compare it to his twenty-something challenger's lack of experience or ability to govern, his failed county commissioner race and glitzy effort on "Dancing with the Stars."

DeFazio's the real-deal.For decades the best hard-working congressman thatOregons 4th Congressional District could ever hope to have. Still at his high school wrestling weight still fit and tough as ever. He can deliver what Oregonians need. DeFazio's record of service deserves our vote and gratitude.

To be counted, ballots now must be taken to official drop boxes rather than mailed; see the secretary of state's web siteor call your local government office to find the drop box nearest you.

All it takes is a tax base for the Upper Willamette Soil & Water Conservation District of $.07 per $1,000 of assessed property value. The UWSWCD has a rich history of providing land owners within Lane County support protecting the water, soils and other natural resources of our county.

These projects have helped to protect water quality, enhance soil health and strived to make our local forests healthier and more diverse. In recent years the district has worked in close collaboration with EWEB and landowners within the McKenzie watershed to implement voluntary projects aimed at protecting water quality and ensuring the residences of Eugene and Springfield continue to have the highest quality water.

With this years catastrophic fires, specifically the Holiday Farm fire, there will be an even greater need to work on restoring and stabilizing lands within the McKenzie Watershed. The UWSWCD is asking the citizens of our district for their support and help by voting yes for Measure 20-312.

The UWSWCD has a deep commitment to our community and thanks you for your support.https://www.cleanwaterandhealthysoil.com/
