The One Bridal Beauty Trend We Saw on Celebrities This Year – Yahoo Lifestyle

Dec 31st, 2019

With a new decade inching closer, 2019 celebrity weddings introduced a crop of up-and-coming trends including elopements and microweddings, such as Heidi Klum and Tom Kaulitzs Italian boat ceremony and Hilary Duff and Matt Kostasintimate nuptials at home. Other celebrities embraced the sequel wedding trend (or having more than one celebration). Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas, for example, first married in a surprise Vegas wedding and then later again in a destination wedding in France. Similarly, Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin exchanged vows in a courthouse in 2018 before throwing a luxe weekend-long wedding bash in South Carolina. But there was another bridal beauty trend that dominated the yearand it was this particularly popular celebrity wedding hairstyle.

A majority of celebrities who exchanged vows in 2019 rocked a classic low chignon for their nuptials. The old-school style seems to have made a major resurgence in popularity after Meghan Markle wore it to her royal wedding in 2018. For her Windsor celebration, the Duchess wore a center-parted chignon at the nape of her neck. She also had two wispy strands of hair out front for an ultra-romantic look. The Knot taps Emma Fitzgerald, owner of Salon Trs and educator for Paul Mitchell to get the low-down on the popular day-of do. A chignon is a hairstyle that is placed in the desired location at the back of the head. It can either be a knot or a coil of the entire ponytail, she says.

The look dominated celebrity weddings this year, as many brides opted for this old-school do. Duck Dynastys Sadie Robertson complimented her classic-looking strapless crepe mermaid gown with this traditional day-of do for her Louisiana farm wedding. Similarly, Keleigh Sperry sported the same updo for her Maui wedding to husband Miles Teller. Sabrina Dhowre channeled Markles chignon too as she exchanged vows with DJ Idris Elba in a Morrocan wedding.

But a chignon doesnt have to be the classic, clean loop. Buns are also considered chignons, and other celebrities opted for that modern twist on the classic look. Hailey Bieber, for instance, let her long-sleeve, Chantilly lace mermaid gown shine by accenting it with a slicked-back low bun. Glees Lea Michele wore a twisted low updo to her Northern California nuptials, while tennis pro Caroline Wozniacki wore a fuller chignon for her Tuscany wedding to NBA player David Lee.

While most celeb brides kept their wedding hairstyle minimalistic, some put their own spin on the chignon. Figure skater Meryl Davis added some twists in the front of her wedding hairstyle for a softer, more romantic feel. Dancing With the Stars personality Jenna Johnson added a sparkly headpiece above her low chignon to achieve a more glamorous style. Golf champion Michelle Wie, on the other hand, topped off her low bun with a flower crown made of babys breath and some wispy pieces of hair in the front.

Other celebrities who rocked this popular wedding beauty trend were actress Kim Hidalgo in her California wedding to Pretty Little Liars actor Brant Daugherty, singer Katharine McPhee in her London wedding to David Foster, and former Bachelorette star Lauren Bushnell in her secret garden wedding to country singer Chris Lane. Bushnell highlighted her polished hairdo with a short, shoulder-length veil.

Thinking of stealing the stars style? To get the look, Fitzgerald says to create a ponytail in the desired location at the back of the head, take the length of the hair and knot or coil until it collapses on itself and then secure with an elastic band or pins. She recommends using the ends of the hair or your front fringe to cover the elastic band and finish by loosening up the look or styling your fringe area.

Fitzgerald tells The Knot that this look is best achieved with dry hairbut adds that its best to place a wave or loose curl into the hair for texture prior to styling. Texture spray can be especially helpful too, as youll want the look to last through your late-night dancing. If you want to put your personal stamp on the style, barrettes, clips and veils are great accessories to finish off the look. Anything goes, Fitzgerald says.
